On June 29th, 1981, by the grace
of God, Nazir and Majeeda Ahmad ushered into the world a baby
boy. The fourth of now four children, they named him
Farooq
Ismail Ahmad.
Though born in Jamaica,
Queens, I've lived most of my life in North Bellmore, Long
Island...yes, I'm a Long Island boy. I attended grammar school at
Newbridge Road Elementary, then junior high at Grand
Avenue. After graduating with honors from Wellington
C. Mepham High School in 1999, I did my undergraduate
studies at SUNY Stony Brook. I graduated in 2003, receiving my
B.S. in Biology.
In 2004 I began
dental school at
New York University College of Dentistry,
and received my DDS in 2008. I really enjoyed my time in
dental school; the workload was intense, but definitely paid
off. I learned a great deal, made a lot of friends, and
living in Manhattan was an amazing experience.
I have an older brother and
two older sisters, all of whom are married. My brother,
Khalid, is a pediatric pulmonologist, currently finishing up a fellowship in
sleep medicine. He
has four daughters and one son: Hanaa, Naseeha, Aaliya, Samar, and Saif...no joke, they
are five of the most beautiful nieces/nephew an uncle can ask for.
My eldest sister, Sarwat, lives in Chicago and has three boys, Haaris, Shariq,
and Haroon (these little guys are just as cute as my
nieces.) My second eldest sister, Farhat still lives on
the Island so I do get to see her from time to time.
I'm
currently doing a 1 year general practice residency at Long Island
Jewish Medical Center. The experience is great here; we
get training in all different fields of dentistry.
Once the program
ends in June 2009, I can't wait to begin my career as a
general dentist. :-)
In my spare time I
enjoy reading, photography, graphic/web design, and watching
movies.
